Student choirs to help celebrate Communist Party anniversary

Songs praising the Communist Party of Viet Nam will be presented by students at a festival attended by more than 20 choirs from universities and colleges nationwide.

Organised by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the festival will help celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Party on February 3 next year.

The festival will take place in HCM City on Sunday, in Da Nang next Monday, and in Ha Noi on January 10.

According to the organisation board, about 1,800 students will participate. They will also put on a show for the public.

Annual children's painting contest focuses on memorable sights

HCM City’s annual Green Stroke painting contest for children aged between four and 15 has opened and will accept entries for the qualification round until March 7.

It will feature three groups for kids from 4-7, 8-11 and 12-15 and is open to contestants from Ha Noi, Thua Thien-Hue, Ba Ria-Vung Tau, Dong Thap, Tien Giang, Vinh Long, Can Tho and Binh Duong.

The works should be on topics like memorable sights in daily life, a green environment, peace and friendship between peoples, HCM City, and, especially, Ha Noi on the occasion of its 1,000th anniversary next year.

The entries should be sent to the city’s General Sciences Library’s Network Department at 8B, Nguyen Trung Truc Street, District 1.

There is also a separate contest for visually-impaired kids living in shelters.

The final for group contestants and visually-impaired contestants will be on March 21 and for individuals a week later.

Bank’s Chinatrust charity brings cheer to underprivileged children

Orphans and underprivileged children have the opportunity to enjoy a warm and enjoyable Christmas and New Year thanks to two charity events held by the Chinatrust Commercial Bank’s HCM City branch.

With a budget of around VND92 million (US$5,000), the bank gave the children milk, food, clothes, stationery, toys and other necessities. The first donation was made to 75 children of the Hoa Mai Orphanage in Long Thanh District, southern Dong Nai Province last Saturday. The second event will be held this Saturday for 100 children of the Mau Don and Nam Hung orphanages in HCM City.
